Apple Ads Are Here

Right-click pictures and choose "Save Target As..." to download video.

Last semester Michael Ashworth and I worked on a couple of videos spoofing the Apple computer advertisements. As my friend and fellow Mac user Greg Gilliland said, "they aren't very strong arguments."

I admitted the arguments are not very strong and from a technical standpoint, it makes my understanding of Apple computers look bad. What you must realize is the irony of the fact that the videos were edited and encoded using Final Cut Pro on an Apple in the Studio here at UT...so much for preserving the central concept of the communication. Well, I guess it makes you wonder how many PC commercials are edited on Macs...my guess is all.

Anyway, if you have the money and don't mind waiting a while for some software and never getting the rest of it, then get a Mac. They're cool.

Funds needed to continue website
KNOXVILLE—Owner and creator of PeterMcDermott.com, Peter McDermott, announced today that in order to maintain his personal website, he would have to request the support of its members and readers. Due to an increase in cost for maintaining the website, McDermott said he will not be able to come up with the funding himself.

"In order to provide the content to the readers, keep the blog updated, and continue to add features, such as the radio station, to the website, I can't do it all out of my pocket," McDermott said.

"People must realize running a .com website isn't free. There are costs involved, and in order to share the content, it requires help of outside sources.

McDermott will be asking that website visitors consider donating money to the site through PayPal or checks payable to Peter McDermott. The site will require service fees of $300 in the next two weeks and McDermott is requesting anyone willing and able to help with as much as they can.

"If I could continue to do it for free, I would. Not everyone has to pay. But those that support it have to see how far their support goes. It's a huge outreach that they'll continue to reap the benefits of.

Those intersted in making a donation should contact Peter McDermott at pm@utk.edu for further information. All donations appreciated.

"Put those MP3s down, Jr.!"
SAN FRANCISCO—The recording industry's website may have been knocked offline, but that's not stopping the RIAA from delivering 532 more "John Doe" lawsuits to alleged illegal music file swappers.

The RIAA announced the suits Tuesday morning, pointing out that 89 of the suits are reserved for people who spent their time distributing music through university networks...—Tech TV

Spring Fever
This is the time of the year where the calender can't go fast enough. While most schools are just getting out on spring break, we've already had our one week of winter vacation. Give it a few more weeks and we'll all be out of here. But for now the sun is shining and life is grand.

UPDATE: March 19--I just revised and updated my
résumé, the new one is available by clicking on Résumé and either downloading the Word or PDF files available.

The McDermott Clan
The name MacDermott/McDermott is derived from the Irish MacDiarmada. This in turn is derived from the peronal name Diarmuid. The family is descendant from an original Diarmuid of Roscommon. The family seat was on MacDermotts Island near Boyle.

Boston-bound, baby
Spring break means trips to the south, days on the beach, alcohol and casual sex, right? Nah, definitely a trip up to good 'ole New England kicks any other plan's butt. The stay up there is all to be determined, but right now it concerns my friend Shervin, my Aunt Deb, Aunt Polly and friend Meredith. We'll see how it all works once I get up there 3:20 on Saturday...

It's a Beautiful Day
Take one look at this picture and you'll wonder how I can keep myself inside to show you this awesome winter wonderland. My first class today was cancelled and it wasn't due to the weather but a sickness in the family. I'm not sure if I buy it, but I'm glad to have the extra time off. Maybe I could clean my room? Nah...

Love 89.1 WYLV Interview
Eric Harkness and I were interviewed along with Pastor John this morning at WYLV and WJRZ to speak about the Lost Sheep Ministry. I'll have the audio clips up once I can get them from minidisc onto mp3. Check out their website here.

Know Your Politics
I was news anchor for this hot Knoxville political call-in show on Sunday. I'll be hitting the airwaves in the Knoxville area and online next Sunday from 6 to 8 pm ET, be sure to check it out! Check out my Journal to see what's up in my world.

Blog Updated, So Read it Already!

I updated my blog, and I'm going to continue to do so on a regular basis now that I've moved and am starting to get settled in my new room. Be sure to click on Journal and read up! I'm going to make it interactive soon, so watch out Oprah...

Just Added: Fred Rogers Essay & Andre Kole Interview

Bush seeks the moon and Mars, NASA gets serious

George W. Bush's persuit of Mars has NASA scrambling to get back to the moon. An extra $11 billion has been reallocated to the NASA space program. Will this extra funding show us results, or is just another tactic for Bush's 2004 campaign? Only time will tell. For now? Beam me up Scotty.

McDermott calls Mrs. O, finds out it's a no go

I recently got off of the phone with a producer from Warner Bros. and I'm evidently not what they're looking for during next week's segment, but I'm on the call list for when a better opportunity arrises, so we'll see what happens...for now, no Los Angeles =(

Mrs. O calls the computer geek, McDermott likely to appear on The Sharon Osbourne Show

You read it right. I got a call from Warner Bros. yesterday discussing the possibility of appearing on the Sharon Osbourne show to discuss how you can be a teenager, help people out, and not spend all your time getting drunk and high. We'll see if I get a call back, I find it doubtful, but I think Mrs. O. would really be glad she got the chance to meet me.

Newsflash: WVLT-TV Goes Overboard

Several reporters from WVLT-TV and the UT College Republicans are responsible for going overboard on press coverage with a story broken by the Government Editor for the Daily Beacon, Brooks Brown. The story, as it originally appeared in the Daily Beacon was shown on WVLT during their "story." The advisor for the Daily Beacon said that they need to get their own news. I agree.

Found: A Better Way

Right. I was wrong. You're all right. Thank you for telling me, you don't know how much it means to me. I think the person that put it in the best words of Ashley Flowers, "I just want to know why you are doing this to yourself." She continued, "it sounds like [all] you're doing is making yourself more depressed."

Clearly trying to steal her back from a boyfriend she's completely happy with is wrong as it stands. Secondly, with all of the work I have to get done here and with the problems I'm having with friends as it is, stress is something I don't need anymore of. Shervin helped me understand that in an e-mail he just sent me. I'm just going to buckle down, get the work on my plate done, and let everything work itself out. Now to get my Astronomy extra credit done...

Yet Another Not-so-pressing Press Release:

11/6/03 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KNOXVILLE, TN -- PeterMcDermott.com will undergo a design overhaul during the holiday season. The new site is expected to be released sometime in January. Design software to be used in the revamp includes Macromedia Studio MX 2004. It should also be noted that Peter McDermott is an equity shareholder in Macromedia, Inc.

The overhaul is expected to invite more interaction to the website. The new site is expected to mimic the functionality of Leoville, with a touch of LockerGnome but without millions of viewers, and continuous daily posts. New sections for the upcoming site include: message boards; a "moblog" or mobile blog, including pictures taken from McDermott's Nokia 3650; the journal as it stands; a new weblog which will follow the traditional definition of blogging and will explain portions of the web as McDermott experiences them offering several links and suggested sites to visit.

Whether or not the site will contain RSS or Microsoft One Note content is still under consideration. Since the owner of the site does not yet own a copy of Office 2003, it is safe to say that the appearance of One Note content will not be available in the near future. All those interested in beta testing the new site are encouraged to e-mail PeterMcDermott.com at info@crucialsolutions.com. CrucialSolutions.com is a private business owned and operated by entrepreneur, Peter McDermott. For more information visit www.crucialsolutions.com.

Peer Into My Life:

The excitement never runs low here (noteworthy sarcasm there). Now you can view my webcam. At some point or another I will change the navigation setup on the website to allow for a little more variety of content. However, due to lack of content, and lack of interest in this portal, such construction will be delayed and a simple link will be placed to my webcam.

Blah Blah Blah...

The ventures page has information on my newest endeavors. I am now working for The Daily Beacon as a staff writer, The Volunteer Channel as an editor and voice talent. You can also catch me on the airwaves in the Knoxville area Tuesdays from 1-4pm on 90.3FM The Torch! The blog is back up, so be sure to check out the Journal! --pete

Peter McDermott is the proprietor of CrucialSolutions.com, founder of Mindtron Media Studios, and owner of Fanation.com. When you need creativity, innovation and a reliable provider, you need Peter McDermott. Unfortunately Peter cannot stand talking in third person for more than three sentences.

Welcome to my Internet portal. Gathered here you will find all the information you could possibly require and much more. Included in these pages are various text formats of my résumé, a collection of news articles that I have been featured in, an updated account of my life, a collection of my writings, a brief history of my ventures and of course, everything the lawyers told me to put here. Wait, again with the third person thing, I'm my own lawyer, so that would mean what I required myself to put there.

Please feel free to wander the pages with disregard to any form of logic or reason. They are not listed in particular order, rather alphabetical order. I'm an equal opportunity employer, and thus I have created and opportuned all of these links equally. Well, except for the résumé that gets 4 flashy different formats to make it compatible for everyone to read. Lucky résumé...
